Misery in the Head ...all about headaches

types_of_headaches.JPG

Many people suffer from headaches all throughout their month, and sometimes daily, but why? Have you wondered why you are the one, who continues to experience all these terrible headaches, and not some other odd fellow or peculiar lady?

It does not seem fair at all, does it? Why is all this happening to you? All the unnecessary pain you have to deal with, and once you get through that excruciating headache barley, many other migraines are scheduled to see you in the near future. It is sad but it is true, and this will continue to happen to an individual whenever the problem is left uncorrected!

Those unique people who experience this vicious reoccurring cycle, can see how it begins to take a major toll on their life, it eventually spills over into their family member’s lives, and often times those same headaches can affect their career and work productivity. They are not as productive as they once used to be.

28 million experience migraine headaches in the United States alone. Do you remember your last episode? Before that headache actually grabbed you, when it “got your attention” so to speak, you might have noticed a few unique things. Some people are aware of the preliminary signs, they can experience “the warning signals” before that dreadful migraine headache fully appears.

What are some of the preliminary symptoms?

Any of these may occur:

Number one; the person’s vision may become altered; experiencing flashing lights, wavy lines, or even floaters may occur. Other people may notice a hole within their visual field, also known as a blind spot or a scotoma, normally about 30-45 minutes before the headache begins. Not only is their visual field altered, there can be an increased sensitivity to light.

Number two; oftentimes there is an increased sensitivity to sound, and auditory hallucinations are very possible.

Number three; there can be a keen awareness of strange odors, yet it might be something that only you will be able to identify and smell.

Number four; a period of depression, irritability, restlessness, and problems concentrating.

Number five; nausea, vomiting, some sensory disturbances or motor symptoms.

Basically the person’s physical sense’s (sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch), all become greatly enhanced before the migraine (the prodrome phase), or even during their migraine headache itself. It is possible, that only one of their physical senses become affected, or it may be many of them at once. For example, some have a sensitivity to light alone, yet others experience the sensitivity to light, the noise, and many weird neurological sensations that travel through their head or body, before the headache fully manifests.

Why though, why does all of this happen?

A migraine is a neurological syndrome with a major vascular component. Here are a few intricate details that we need to understand. When a person experiences migraine auras, they seem to be caused by a wave of electrical nerve impulses. Either too many nerve signals, thereby causing everything to increase, leading to the excitability of the nervous system, or too little electrical impulses are transmitted.

Either way, there is always a cause and an affect with anything in life. The cause; the nervous system tends to get out of balance, (sympathetic dominant or parasympathetic dominant) depending on the individual and whatever is going on within their body. The effect is the change of the vascular system which leads to the pounding/ throbbing migraine headaches. The chiropractic approach to any type of headache, is very simple.

Adjust the vertebrae to correct the misalignment, and put it back into its proper position. Then the nerve interference is removed or greatly reduced, and the body begins to work properly. Eventually the symptoms, the headache, begin to dissipate and go away. The function of the nervous system works properly! It is a very simple concept to understand, and the upper cervical adjustment is very powerful and effective in removing nerve interference.

The nervous system is an electrical network that transmits and relays many messages back and forth to different areas of the body. It controls all your heart beats, the breathing, even vasoconstriction and vasodilatation of the blood vessels, the entire vascular system within your body! When people have that pounding/throbbing painful sensation in the head, something is going on with their blood flow to the brain, caused by the imbalance of the nervous system.

Make sure you are free from nerve interference at the brainstem region of the cervical spine. If you want to correct the pounding/throbbing headache, a vascular problem, look at the nerve supply controlling the vascular system.
